In the year 2020, with the advent of COVID-19 era, we have witnessed the turbulence in all the sectors of the world. Coping up with the “new normal” took a toll to our quality of life as well. A massive change in the education system with a renaissance in the research field had been the most talked topic. Having said that, Adamas University have always been the frontline promoter of “never to stop learning”. Under the umbrella of Adamas University, the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, have always evolved with new strategies to educate the students and maintaining the research credentials of the department by utilising the digital technology in the best possible way.

With the beginning of this year 2021, the department of pharmaceutical technology, continued the academic activities with same zeal and enthusiasm. In this report, I would like to highlight the noteworthy activities in terms of organizing webinars/ conferences, culminating research perspectives of the faculties in the form of publications in the highly reputed journals and fostering the professional development of the students through internships.

Seminar/ Webinar/ Conference/ Events organized by the School:

  • On 4th February, 2021, the school organized a webinar on the topic: Pharmaco Informatics based screening of chemical databases for lead-like molecules: Application in SARS-COV-2. The program was coordinated by Dr. Partha Roy, Associate Professor, and moderated by Dr. Yadu Nandan Dey. The speaker was Dr. Md Ataul Islam, Newton International Fellow (The Royal Society, United Kingdom), University of Manchester, Manchester, United Kingdom.
  • On 30 March 2021, the School of Pharmaceutical Technology, Adamas University, in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council, Adamas University organized a Professional Development Program on “Understanding the Strategies on Data Driven Research: A new way to extract information”. The speakers were Dr. Mandar Bodas Solutions Consultant, Research Solution-Life Sciences, RELX India Private Limited (Elsevier Company) and Dr Satarupa Banerjee, Assistant Professor, School of Bio Sciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore
  • During 5th-6th April 2021, the School of Pharmaceutical Technology, in collaboration with Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), Bengal Branch and Pharmatutor organized its first international e-conference on “Changing waves in Healthcare Research: Focus on post-Covid era”. There were 5 international speakers and more than 600 participants around the globe.
  • Two of our faculty members, Dr. Partha Roy, Associate Professor and Mr. Subhashis Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, were awarded for the “Best oral presentation” at Virtual International Conference on Advances in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 2021 (ACCE 2021) organized by Department of Chemical Engineering, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (India) on April 16 – 17, 2021.
  • On 04-05-2021, The Royal School of Pharmacy, Royal Global University, Guwahati, celebrated the World Asthma Day, 2021. Our faculty member, Ms. Joyeeta Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, was invited to present a lecture on the topic “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions”.

Student Internship Program

As per the Bachelor of Pharmacy curriculum prescribed by Pharmacy Council of India, it is mandatory for the final year students to undertake industrial internship in a GMP certified pharmaceutical company for 4 weeks. The purpose of this internship is to expose students to the real time work experience and at the same time foster their skills through hands on observation and job execution in the production unit. With the active support of Career Development Cell of Adamas University, the final year B.Pharm students were distributed and channelized to various reputed Pharmaceutical companies for the internship program. Companies like Lupin, Zuventus Heathcare, Mankind Pharma, IPCA (Sikkim units), Pure and Cure (Guwahati) and Caplet Pharmaceuticals (Kokata) provided the internship to our students from 6th April 2021 to 6th May 2021

Cultural Events of the School:

Every year the school with religiously witness the myriads of talents among the students of the school through various cultural events. Through these events, the students not only get a chance to culminate a friendly relation with the peers and seniors and work as a team but also get an opportunity to boost up their confidence and showcase their creative impulses. The school with its highly proactive students and faculty members would take part in the celebration of Fresher’s Day, Teacher’s Day and also Farewell of the outgoing batches. Apart from these, the school would organize an intra-school competition which comprises of fusion of talent, imagination, creativity and alertness. Whether it was the melodious solo song and dance, art, or essay writing, the main of these talent hunt program is to bring out the uniqueness of each individual. The school also makes sure, that the students develop a sense of responsiveness towards the profession that they have opted for. Keeping these in mind, the school celebrates World Pharmacist’s Day and National Pharmacy week in order to make the public and health care professionals aware that pharmacists are important members of the health care team, and there is a need to make the best use of their services in order to improve patient’s quality of life. Adamas University celebrated the first annual fest ADINOVA 2020 on 13th – 15th February 2020. As a part of this mega event, each school were asked to organize school events for all the tree days. School of Medical Sciences organized three different events: Pick and Speak, Leaf art and Cooking without Fire. In this covid era also, the school made sure that the spirit of extracurricular activities do not get subdued. Hence, the school have celebrated the Teacher’s day, Farewell party on a virtual mode with the same vibe. Thus, the main purpose of the school is not only to polish the students academically, but also sharpen their personality and boost up their talents through the various cultural events of the school round the year.
